DIY Jar of Encouragement for Dad

Father’s day is just around the corner! Men are often taught to be tough and strong, but let’s not forget that even “superman” needs encouragement and can appreciate something sentimental this father’s day  :) Here’s a fun and simple DIY project you can do to show some heartfelt appreciation for our everyday hero!

HOW LONG IT TAKES

~10-25 mins

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Colorful printer paper

  • Scissors

  • Markers

  • Ziploc bag

  • 7” x 11” cardstock

  • Thick double-sided tape

  • Glue

  • Template for jar shape (download here)

  • Some encouraging verses and messages for dad. We’ve compiled some suggestions here!

  • Most importantly, a thankful heart :D

Step ONE:

  • Using the provided template, trace and cut out the jar shape outline on colored paper.

  • Cut the ziploc bag to match the shape of the jar. The ziploc bag we used had a label on one side, so we only used the clear side of the bag. You can also cut both sides of the bag so that you still have a resealable opening at the top keeping the two pieces together.

Step TWO:

  • Using double-sided tape or glue, secure the ziploc bag to the jar outline.

  • On the side with the ziploc bag, cut double-sided tape to line the outer edge. The card works better when the jar has a little depth (more space to put notes inside), so we added two layers of thick double-sided tape.

Step THREE:

  • Fold the 7”x11”  cardstock in half to form a card.

  • Stick the jar, with the layered double-sided tape, onto the card. Make sure it’s centered!

  • Write a label for the jar.

Step FOUR:

  • Cut some strips of colored paper and write a few short encouraging notes and verses for dad. Let it come from the heart!

Step FIVE:

  • Write a message for dad on the inside of the card. There is plenty of room to write or draw :D

Step SIX:

  • Put all the little notes into the jar and the card is complete!

Happy Father’s Day!!
